Love them or hate them, Ooshies are gaining momentum in school playgrounds around Australia, with the launch of a world-first Disney+ collection at Woolworths.
It’s the first time characters from across the Disney+ universes have come together in a single collection, featuring popular characters from Marvel, Star Wars, Disney and Pixar.
In the latest news, Woolworths has announced that Disney+ Ooshies Collectibles will be available in stores and for online customers across Victoria from Wednesday 16 September.
Woolworths had delayed its Disney+ Ooshies roll out in Victoria due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
The supermarket giant has also announced the release of two ultra-rare furry Disney+ Ooshies: Thor and The Child (aka “Baby Yoda” from The Mandalorian).
There are only 100 of each, and they don’t have a spot in the Collector Case.
A Woolworths spokesperson said, “Each furry Disney+ Ooshie is marked with a number between 1 – 100 so customers are urged to keep a look out for these.”
The announcement of “ultra rare” furry Ooshies follows the release last week of “rare” glitter Ooshies to collect: the Mandalorian, Elsa, Woody and Captain Marvel.
The rare Ooshies have started to appear on eBay, with an Elsa glitter Ooshie going for $15,000. Another two have been listed for $12,500 and $5,500. However, the rare collectables have yet to attract a single bid.
The collection features nine Ooshies from each of the four Disney+ universes, totalling 36 Disney+ Ooshies to collect, including Darth Vader, Elsa, Buzz Lightyear, Thor, Ariel, Yoda, Black Panther and Moana , and many more.
The covetable line-up includes silver, gold, colour changing, glow in the dark, and additional glitter editions.
Woolworths Chief Marketing Officer Andrew Hicks said: “We know many Aussie families have had a challenging year, so we’re partnering with Disney to give our customers something exciting to look forward to from their everyday shop.
“Whether it’s Woody, a hologram Princess Leia, or a glow in the dark Yoda, we’re confident the collection is something the entire family can enjoy and collect together.”
The Ooshies can be fully recycled in store through TerraCycle, where they will be turned into plastic pellets. The pellets are used to help make outdoor products such as garden beds, decks, fences and benches.
Woolworths customers can score a highly sought-after collectable for every $30 they spend in-store or online.
