Doing the dishes is a fairly straight-forward process, but many people choose to do it bare-handed. But there are a myraid reasons why it’s not a good idea. Here are six reasons why you should slip on a pair of rubber gloves before you pick up a scrubbing brush.
1. Limit the spread of infection
Bugs can linger on utensils, glasses and benchtops. Wearing gloves gives you some protection from picking up germs.
2. You’ll use hotter water
Rubber gloves give you some protection from heat so you can run the water nice and hot. The warmer the water, the easier it is to clean.
3. Chemicals can burn or irritate your skin
Many cleaners contain caustic ingredients that can burn or irritate your skin. RealSafety.org warns that even cleaners you think are relatively safe could cause trouble over time. “Even chemicals that may not seem dangerous can irritate the skin over time or in individuals who are sensitive to the chemicals in question,” the organisation advises.
4. Your hands won’t dry out
Immersing your hands in warm water every day has an impact on your skin. Gloves protect your hands.
5. Protection from sharps
While they don’t give you 100 per cent protection, gloves offer some coverage when you’re dealing with broken crockery and glass.
6. You’ll have better grip
Gloves help you keep a steady hold on your plates and crockery.
