US residents were more than surprised to discover an “invasion” of tumbleweed in their yards as a result of strong winds.
As many as 150 homes in Victorville in the high desert northeast of Los Angeles were affected last week, with the tumbleweed piling up as high as a two-storey house, in some cases.
“It’s an invasion,” Resident Tanya Speight told ABC7 News.
“It’s never been this bad.”

Another resident took to Instagram saying the tumbleweed made it over her two-metre fence.
Victorville spokeswoman Sue Jones told the Daily Press: “The primary goal is to clear the front of the houses, to remove the tumbleweeds in order to allow residents safe access to their homes.
“With the winds as strong as they are, as soon as they clear certain areas, more tumbleweeds are blowing right back in.”
