If you haven’t seen the chocolate muffin that’s gone viral online, then you haven’t seen the most tasty discovery to come out of the Olympics.
We get it, it’s easy to get swept away by sporting events and gold medals, but for us foodies, it’s all about the snacks. And now, there’s a choc muffin vs. pecan tart debate happening amongst the Olympic swimmers.
It began when Norwegian swimmer and self-proclaimed, “muffin man”, Henrik Christiansen uploaded a Tiktok reviewing the meals in the Olympic village. There was pesto pasta, pork skewers, shrimp dumplings, and chicken gyoza, which he gave average ratings. But the choccy muffin? It looked delicious, and he confirmed just how good it was by giving it a whopping 11/10.
Everyone went crazy for the chocolate muffin online, and Christiansen’s love affair grew, with some of his muffin-loving videos reaching over 10 million views.

Wanting to see what the fuss is about, Aussie Olympic swimmers, Brianna Throssell and Jenna Forrester gave the muffins a taste test. In their video, captioned, “Watch out for the muffin man”, they set out to debunk or confirm if Christiansen’s 11/10 was accurate.
They gave the most beautiful description of how it tasted – a review that only Aussies would understand.
“This is our review of the chocolate muffin in Olympic village,” Forrester said, before giving what many have called the “best Aussie review ever.”
“I would say it’s like the Coles chocolate mud cake with Betty Crocker’s icing on the inside.”
They combined two Aussie supermarket classics and created a nostalgic combination we never knew we needed.
Our twist on the Olympic’s chocolate muffin
While it’s still yet to be revealed if the chocolate muffin is worthy of such a high rating (spoilers below), we have a recipe that is gourmet, delicious, and easy to make yourself.
They say homemade is always best, especially when you can pack it full of love and share with your family while watching the Olympic games.
It’s the best Choc Fudge Muffin recipe we’ve ever tasted and it’ll only take 45 minutes to prep and cook. Plus, it has a dollop of ice-cream and a chocolate ganache sauce – more than they get at the Olympic village.
Chocolate muffin vs. pecan tart
Forrester may have liked the chocolate muffin, but she didn’t sing its praises as high as Christiansen did.
After her first bite, Forrester said it was “just okay.”
She reached the gooey center of the muffin, and added, “it tastes like a muffin that you’d get at the school tuck shop in primary school. It’s not that bad. I think it’s pretty good.”
But pretty good doesn’t warrant an 11/10.
She soon uploaded another video captioned “Apologies Christiansen but the praline tart is better than your muffins.”
Watch them compare the muffin and tart:

She gave the tart a 10/10, and the muffin a 9/10 – “which is generous,” she added.
Which side are you on?
