For most people, putting away cutlery involves dumping the knives, forks and spoons in their slots as quickly as possible.
But for TikTok user Patricia Prado Oliveira (@patriciapradooliv), instead of the dump and run, she likes to arrange her knives, forks and spoons vertically so they’re stored on the side.
How to store knives, forks and spoons
The video has received over 200,000 likes and 2,000 comments, with many people saying they’re running to rearrange their drawers right now.
“Who else just ran to go rearrange their utensil drawer?” said one commenter.
“I do this”
Surprisingly, many commenters say they have stored their cutlery like this their whole lives.
“This is what I have known all my life …. is there another way?” said one person.
Another commented, “I’m so glad I’m not the only one who does this!!”
“I do this for all my cutlery,” said another.
Others made some excellent points against storing your knives and forks like this.
“This assumes all your silverware is matched,” said someone.
Another pointed out: “That’s a waste of time, and once you take a few out there, gonna fall.”
More tips for organising your kitchen drawers:
- Get rid of utensils you don’t use.
- Whether you stack your cutlery or store them side-by-side, make sure you at least have a divider in your drawer.
- Have all handles facing out to you, and group like items together.
- Not everyone will agree with this, but generally, an excellent way to organise your cutlery is from left to right – large knives, knives, forks, spoons and teaspoons at the bottom.
