Earlier this year people were outraged over airlines cracking down on carry-on luggage weight.
While the 7kg rule isn’t new, some carriers began paying closer attention, charging an extra $50 for excess carry-on luggage.
But there’s one mistake people are making that’s sending their luggage into the heavy end of the scale.
Speaking to Escape, packing master Daan Dijkstra says the key is in the luggage itself.
“My biggest tip is to look at the overall weight of the luggage itself,” he said. “I mean people will cut off half their toothbrush to shave a gram off but overall the bag they’re taking is actually a really heavy bag. You need to remember that the bag weight is included in the 7kg and often people choose bags that already weigh 2-3kg.”
“You have to be conscious about the items that you take and also the space. Make sure you use all the pockets in a bag and available solutions.”
