This year marks the 10th anniversary of Sydney’s Vivid Festival, an annual festival of light, music and ideas.
But it’s the light installations and projections that crowds flock to see. So where do you start? Here are our top 10 illuminated works you can’t miss.
1. Oasis
Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
A sea of lights that dances on and around water, Oasis pays homage to the memory of the ‘forgotten’ Australian children who grew up in care.
2. Harmony Valley – Rainbow of Peace and Trees of Friendship
The Rocks
This installation comprises of large “kawaii” inflatable sculptures. Visitors can interact with the sculpture by forming a human chain that connects with each end of the rainbow.
3. The Enchanted Garden: At Tumbalong Lights
Darling Harbour
An accessible play experience where visitors can interact with a colourful garden of illuminated sea plants.
Chatswood
Get too close to the electric jellyfish and he will zazzle and zap you with his sting bites.
5. Taronga zoo – Lights for the wild
A spectacular display of light sculptures with a raft of new animals joining last year’s lineup.

Cadmans Cottage, The Rocks
Swim, jump and push your way through rooms filled with virtual toy balls.
8. Phantasos
Luna Park
This dazzling five minute spectacle illuminates more than 3,000 individual LED lights on the Luna Park Ferris Wheel – the only Vivid installation you can ride!
Customs House
The iconic characters of May Gibbs’ beloved Australian children’s story comes to life on the façade of Customs House.
10. Lighting of the sails: Metamathemagical
Australian artist Jonathan Zawada transforms the Sydney Opera House sails into a series of kinetic digital sculptures inspired by the Australian environment.
