7 of the best face oils for your skin

According to a cosmetic chemist.

Beauty trends come and go, but face oils seems to be here to stay. Considered to be a healthier, greener option for skincare – as opposed to serums filled with synthetic – face oils have become incredibly popular over the past few years and are set to remain so.

In fact, face oils work on almost all skin types, according to Biologi founder and cosmetic chemist Ross Macdougald.

“Most skin types benefit from using oil soluble products in addition to water soluble products. Although everyone’s skin type is different, we all have skin that contains oil which can become depleted. We call this ‘lipid dry skin’,” says Ross.

“Lipid dry skin benefits from oil-based products because any oil is hydrophobic, which means that it will keep water from escaping our skin. In basic terms, oils hold in water which means that our skin can maintain its hydration.”

From a scientific point of view, Ross explains that face oils typically contain the same fatty acids, just different percentages of the acids. You might know these better as Omega 3, 6 and 9, or palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid and alpha linoleic acid. Our skin also needs vitamins A and E.
