How to make a macrame wall hanging
Gather your supplies
- 6mm twist cotton macramé cord
- Wooden beads
- 1.8m wooden dowel
You’ll also need
- Scissors
- Clipboard
- Stiff-bristle comb
- Cardboard
- Drill
- Wall hook
Here’s how
Step 1
Cut cord to 80cm long and fold in half. Holding loop in one hand, bring cord tails up and over about 10cm from top of loop to form a circle, taking tails under and through, then pull tight to form an overhead knot.
Step 2
Thread cord ends through wooden bead and push up to just under overhand knot. Hold leaf stem in place on clipboard with loop at top.
Step 3
Cut 20 pieces of cord to 20cm long. Fold 2 cords in half. Put one under and one on top of stem so loops are on either side. Take tails over loop on one side.
Step 4
Take tails under loop on other side.
Step 4
Hold cord tails and start to pull.
Step 6
Keep pulling tails until cord forms a knot and push it under wooden bead.
Step 7
Pull tails to form a tight knot on stem.
Step 8
Repeat Steps 4 to 7 until all cords are used. Brush out cords using a comb.
Step 9
Cut a leaf template from cardboard. Centre on cords and trim to shape.
Step 10
Repeat Steps 1 to 9 to make more macramé leaves, varying stem lengths.
Step 11
Drill a small hole 10mm from dowel ends, thread a 2m length of cord through and tie off. Loop leaves on rod, staggered, then hang on a wall hook.
