Want to start making your own Taylor Swift-inspired merch? It’s easier than you think.
Armed with your Cricut cutting machine and Printable Iron-On, you can bring your Taylor Swift creations to life in just 60 minutes. The possibilities are endless when you can easily download a design from a marketplace like Etsy in a jiffy.
You’ll need:
- Cricut smart cutting machine (compatible with Print Then Cut*)
- Design Space software on a computer or mobile device
- Cricut Printable Iron-On
- Inkjet home printer (compatible with inkjet printers only; using a laser printer may damage materials or the printer)
- Weeder
- Cricut Autopress, Cricut EasyPress
- Cricut Pressing Mat
- Base material such as a T-shirt (this one is from Big W for $12.)
Preparation:
- Prewash your T-shirt without fabric softener to pre-shrink and remove chemicals that may affect the iron-on adhesion.
- Identify the printable side of the material, which is blank. The printable side of Printable Iron-On for Light fabrics has a green Cricut grid on the back, while Printable Iron-On for Dark fabrics has a QR code sticker on the back.
- Check your printer’s instructions or print a test page on printer paper to determine the correct way to load the printable side of the material.
- Ensure the base material is completely dry before applying Printable Iron-On.
- Recommended: Perform a test cut using a small basic shape to verify the cut setting.
- Recommended: Apply the test cut in an inconspicuous area on the base material to verify application settings.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1
Purchase your Taylor Swift design on Etsy.
Step 2
Upload the design to your Design Space and resize it to fit your shirt. Select “Make it.”
Step 3
Load the Printable Iron-On into your home inkjet printer, ensuring you load the material with the correct side up according to your printer’s instructions or test page.
Follow the instructions in Design Space to print your design without mirroring it.
Step 4
Place the printed iron-on on a Cricut LightGrip mat, printed side up, and load it into your machine, ensuring the page is oriented on the mat as it appears in Design Space. Select “Go” and allow the machine to complete the cutting process.
Step 5
Once the cut is complete, select “Unload” and use a weeder to remove excess iron-on from in and around your design.
Step 6
Now, it’s time to apply your design to your T-shirt. Peel the design away from the liner by hand and place it onto your T-shirt.
Step 7
Place the included pressing sheet on top of your design to protect the heat press from the printer’s inks and press.
Step 8
Press at the time and temperature instructed in the Heat Guide or Cricut Heat app.
Remove the pressing sheet when pressing is complete.
And you’re finished!
