Love patchwork?
Here are seven inspirational patchwork quilts to get you inspired!
1. Use up your fabric stash
Using a white homespun as a base and co-ordinating fabrics for detail, this string pieced quilt is a fabulous project to get you going. A great way to use up all your bits and pieces of fabric.
2. Colour correct
Taking notes from early Amish examples, this lovely quilt is made using half square triangles and flying geese. The use of fashionable colours takes the design to the next level.
3. Size it up
Take a simple long rectangle and continue to frame in contrasting colours. Keep going until you get to the size you want! The quilts pictured are big enough for a king single bed. If you are after a square-finished quilt, start with a square in the middle.
4. A new spin
A modern take on an old-fashioned log cabin. Pieced on a larger scale for a high impact. The large scale piecing makes it great for showing off the fabric and prints you love.
5. Put a ring on it
This is a modern take on a lovely classic, the wedding ring quilt! If you are looking to start a quilt with curved piecing, then this is the one to do. Use your favourite colours and create your own heirloom quilt.
6. Bits and pieces
Another great use of tiny scraps and bits and pieces of fabric. Recalls the origins of early 1930s quilters where people made quilts out of what they had. Look around the house – and Vinnies – for old shirts, dresses and bed sheets.
7. Old meets new
Resize old hankies by framing them in white homespun and piece together to make a lovely whimsical quilt. A perfect meld of old meets new.
