The plant known as the corpse flower is blooming in Arizona.
The flower, which releases a smell described as “putrid” or “rotting flesh” blooms roughly once every ten years for around to 48 hours.
The flower is known scientifically as Amorphophallus titanum, however, to the garden staff at Tucson Botanical Gardens the plant is known as “Rosie.”
The name Titan arum was coined by David Attenborough because the translation of the scientific name, misshapen giant phallus, was considered too rude for television audiences.
A live stream on Facebook of the flower from ABC15 Arizona has attracted thousands of views.
In January last year, a corpse flower mysteriously re-bloomed in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens several years earlier than it was expected.
