Mince pies are something of a Christmas tradition. Usually only available from bakeries and supermarkets in the few weeks leading up to Christmas, the presence of the humble mince pie on shop shelves signifies the arrival of the festive season.
However, Coles has thrown caution to the wind and decided to stock mince pies in store now, almost five full months before Christmas.
The news comes just weeks after the retail giant announced it would also be stocking hot cross buns all year round, seemingly solidifying Coles’ position that seasonal food traditions are merely serving suggestions.
Coles produce developer, Liz da Silva, told 7News that more than half of the 11.5 million Coles’ fruit mince pies sold last year were bought before December.
“People clearly don’t want to wait for a little taste of Christmas, and we believe this season’s pies are the supermarket’s best yet.”
“This year we’ve packed in even more fruit – more than twice as much as last year – inside a melt-in-your-mouth shortcrust pastry,” she said.
The pack of six Coles fruit mince pies have officially been available for purchase in store since Monday August 19.
