They’ve brought us a cult Airwrap, cult air purifier, a slew of cult vacuums…and now the team at Dyson have released the premium tech brand’s first robot vacuum, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav.
Promising to have six times the suction power of any other robot vacuum cleaner – and with an innovative D-shape and extending side brush bar to get into every nook and cranny – it very well could be the world’s most powerful robot vacuum cleaner.
“A robot vacuum cleaner should not be a novelty,” says chief engineer Jake Dyson, “We know there are many frustrations with current robot vacuum cleaners – some have low suction power, or inefficient navigation systems which means that they often get stuck and don’t do a proper job of vacuuming”.
“Dyson engineers have focused on developing machines that overcome these challenges and which increasingly anticipate our needs, understand its environment and operate autonomously.”
After seven years of development, the model is being launched in Australia before anywhere else in the world, retailing at an eye-watering $2399.
Software advancing over time
Engineered with Simulation Localisation and Mapping (SLAM) technology and 26 sensors performing specific tasks, the robot is armed with 360 vision to know where to clean, where it has already been and is intelligent enough to sense dust and create dust maps of your home.
Working in tandem with the user-friendly MyDyson app to navigate, create, customise and schedule cleaning zones at specific times of the day, the 360 Vis Nav intelligently cleans with a runtime of up to 50 minutes before it automatically takes itself to its dock to recharge.
As your robot is connected to your home Wi-Fi, it’ll receive software updates as the engineers at Dyson further develop their technology – meaning your machine could become even more advanced over time.
And if you had any privacy concerns about the data surrounding mapping out your house, fear not, for this information is stored locally on the machine and deleted after five days.
Will the 360 Vis Nav be the next Dyson product to reach cult status?
The machine has four cleaning modes, including ‘auto’ which analyses dust levels and chooses a suction level accordingly. And I was rather impressed watching the robot do its thing – navigating corners and obstacles – to suck up every little speck of dust, oat, dirt and salt in a few strides at a recent live demonstration.
Will this robot vacuum be the next Dyson product to reach cult status?
