When it comes to ranking the most arduous of household chores, there’s no argument that vacuuming is usually right up there. It’s loud, it’s a strain on the back, weaving in and around furniture is tedious, and don’t even get us started on the abyss that is under the couch…
Luckily, thanks to the boom in robot vacuums on the market that do all the work for you, gone are the days of laborious vacuuming sessions.
“Robotic vacuums are a great way to clean your house and an ideal solution for busy households,” says category expert Colin Jones from Appliances Online. “There is no need to plug in your vacuum and walk around your house, these units can be simply let to clean – by the push of a button.”
So, to help you keep your place spick and span without having to lift a finger, we’ve done the research and have rounded up some of the most efficient, affordable and reliable robot vacuums currently available.

How to choose the best robot vacuum for your household
However, with so many options on the market now, choosing the best model for your household can seem daunting. Expert Colin Jones notes a few factors to consider before investing in a robot vacuum.
Flooring
“One of the first factors to consider when purchasing a robotic vacuum is what flooring your home has. If your home has tiles and timber flooring, then dirt on your floor will be collected by even the most basic robotic vacuum cleaners, such as Eufy Robovac 11S Slim or Ecovacs Deebot OZMO-T8AIVI.”
Mopping function
“For medium to larger households, customers may want to consider purchasing a robotic vacuum with a few more features, such as sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping capabilities. These dual-functionality units are great for families with a larger space and perhaps young kids.
“There are always spills, so having the mopping functionality removes the pain of bringing out a large mop and bucket. Simply switch on your robotic vacuum, which will detect the wet surface and automatically turn on its mopping capabilities, such as the Roborock S5.”
Auto-mapping
“Another factor to consider is whether your household has any avoidance systems. These avoidances can be a rug, table, or, most commonly, your stairs. Some models have laser auto mapping capabilities that will allow the unit to scan and analyse your home and automatically adjust to any avoidances in the room (however, you can also let the unit know of these avoidances beforehand through the app).
“Many people worry that if they have stairs in their homes, the vacuum will fall down. That will definitely not happen. Robotic vacuums are great at knowing when there is a shift in the flooring, so they will stop right below or above your stairs.”
