The world’s largest travel website, Tripadvisor, has released the results of the 2019 Travellers’ Choice Awards, and one of those Awards if for the Best Beach in Australia.
While Bondi, Surfers Paradise, Whitehaven or even the white sands of Hyams Beach may immediately spring to mind, a smaller beach has taken out Australia’s number one spot.
Manly Beach in Sydney has been named the best in Australia, with Tripadvisor reviewers giving the beach a ‘better than Bondi’ rating.
“Manly has a lot more to offer in terms of dining, shopping and general sightseeing than the famed Bondi, so if you have time to just “do one”, this is the one,” wrote one reviewer.
Famed Bondi Beach was reduced to sixth place, while Surfers Paradise won second place, followed by Turquoise Bay in Exmouth, WA; Mooloolaba Beach on the Sunshine Coast and the Whitsundays’ Whitehaven Beach.
Noosa Main Beach in Queensland took out seventh place, Burleigh Heads Beach in Queensland got eighth, Cable Beach in Broome, WA won ninth and Mindil Beach in Darwin sat in tenth place.
If you’re interested in which beach won ‘Best Beach in the World’, that privilege went to Baia do Sancho in Brazil.
Winners of all awards were determined based on the quantity and quality of traveller reviews and ratings on Tripadvisor, over a 12 month period.
