How to afford a holiday by making these simple lifestyle swaps

Saving up enough money to go on an international holiday can seem like an impossible task. Rent, mortgage repayments, bills, groceries and school fees very quickly eat into the household budget. However, Skyscanner has crunched the numbers and identified key expenditures that, when swapped for savings, will afford you enough money to book that coveted overseas plane ticket!

How to swap a habit for a holiday

Streaming services vs flights to Fiji for $429

Australians are spending an average of $35 per month on streaming services. By cancelling your subscription for one year, and popping that $35 into savings you could afford to fly to Fiji.

UberEats vs flights to Barbardos for $1,521

Data shows Aussies are spending around $132.50 a month on food delivery. Start cooking your own meals and putting that money into savings and you could be visiting Barbados by next August.

Going out for dinner vs flights to London for $934

London may seem like one of the most expensive places on earth, but if you simply put away $20.32 per week, which is what Aussies report spending on dining out each week, in a year you could afford to visit Buckingham Palace.

Cocktails vs flights to Croatia for $1220

Visit the sapphire-coloured Adriatic Sea simply by giving up those after-work cocktails on Friday, which are costing Aussie workers around $24 per week. Instead, hide that $24 per week away and you could be flying into Dubrovnik for a sea-side European summer.

Bottled water vs a flights to Queenstown for $277

Ever wanted to visit New Zealand? Well, just stop buying bottled water every week – which cost the average person $5.50 per week – and put that five bucks towards return flights to Queenstown instead.

Smoking cigarettes vs flights to the Maldives for $551

Give up a bad habit, improve your health and reward yourself for all that hard work by lazing by the beach in the beautiful Maldives.

Fast fashion vs flights to the USA for $897

We all know fast fashion is bad for the environment, so save the environment and your wallet by spending that $150 per month on flights to America instead!
