It’s a holiday tradition many families look forward to, but a recent report found less people are decorating their homes with Christmas lights.
The analysis done by comparison site finder.com.au found that over the four weeks of Christmas, Australians will spend a whopping $163 million on energy purely to power their lights.
As a result, this year only 11 per cent of families admitted to going “all out” with Christmas decorations.
Money expert Bessie Hassan, at finder.com.au, said decorating your house can be expensive but there are ways to save money doing it.
“Inflatable Santa, rope lighting, reindeers — the list goes on,” she said.
“Getting into the spirit is great and can attract crowds and excitement — but households need to be smart about it and consider things like solar Christmas lights.”
