Throw this roomy number over your shoulder and you’ll be set for the day. Cleverly designed, it’s made up of a circle of flower motifs pulled together with a drawstring – no lining necessary.

Gather your supplies:
Patons Cotton Blend 8 ply 50g: 6 balls Bright Red 18; 2 balls each Denim 21; Fresh Green 24; Apple Green 16; Orange 07; Persian Green 30; Aqua 17; Mineral 29; Cloud 34; 1 ball each Yellow 06; Pink 15; Coral 26; 4.5mm crochet hook; wool needle
Follow First flower hexagon motif instructions or diagram (see page 188) and using colours as listed in Flower colour table (see page 188), make a total of 91 motifs as listed here:
Using 4.5mm hook and Bright Red, make 7ch. 1st row: Miss 1ch, 1dc in each ch to end ... 6dc. 2nd row: 1ch, 1dc in each dc to end. Rep last row until Strap measures 80cm from beg. Turn, then work 1dc in each row end to beg, work 3dc in corner, work 1dc in each free lp of ch at beg, work 3dc in corner, work 1dc in each row end to last row, work 3dc in corner, then 1dc in each rem dc to final corner, 3dc in final corner, sl st in first dc. Work 3 rounds dc around all edges, inc at corners to keep work flat. Fasten off.
To make up
(see Bags of style assembly diagram, opposite) With wrong sides together, using 4.5mm hook, Bright Red and following assembly diagram, join all motifs together working 1dc into each st. Using 8 strands of Bright Red, each 6m long, make a twisted cord (see page 186) and thread around outer edge of bag, beg and ending at position indicated on assembly diagram, then sew ends of strap to opposite sides of bag. Draw up cord to close. Sew in ends.
