Save energy and money by trying out these simple cooling tips.
DIY air conditioner
Create your own air conditioner by sitting a fan in front of a bowl of ice. The super cooled air will be forced around the room, making things more comfortable.
Give your feet soak
To keep cool without being in the bath, soak your feet in a bucket of cold water. The feet are one of the areas of the body where most heat is lost, along with the hands and head. The cold water will remove the heat and so reduce the temperature of your whole body.
Drinking plenty of water will keep your body hydrated so there’s more liquid available for you to sweat, which is the body’s natural cooling system. Add a slice of orange, lime or cucumber to make it more appetising and don’t forget a few ice cubes for the instant cooling hit.
Gonna make you sweat!
Don’t wait for your body to heat up before taking advantage of sweat’s cooling effect. Spray your skin with water before it gets too hot. As well as the instant relief, the evaporating water will help take body heat with it, so you can maintain your temperature lower for longer.
Create a breeze
On those stinking hot days when there’s not a breath of wind to speak of, create your own breeze using fans. Wait until the heat of the day has gone, then open windows at opposite ends of your house. Set a pedestal fan to blow towards windows at one end, to be replaced by cool night air drawn in through the windows at the other.
