Here’s our ultimate guide to keeping your toilet clean so no one judges you during the silly season.
According to hygiene expert Stephanie C, from Expert Home Tips, many of us are doing it wrong.
The major problem lies with toilet brush usage.
After using your toilet brush to clean the toilet, it's important to clean it before putting back in the holder. Not doing so, can cause bacteria and germs to spread even further.
"In order to minimise this risk, the toilet brush should be bleached after use to kill germs," Stephanie said.
Simply, balance the brush over the seat to allow it to dry off and apply a little bleach or disinfectant.

Use a natural toilet cleaner
For anyone wanting to avoid using harsh chemicals, you can make your own toilet cleaner using these simple (and quite common) household ingredients…
Banish bad smells
When it comes to riding the space of odours, there’s no need for bulky extra items taking up space on your toilet.
Instead, place a few drops of your favourite essential oil directly on the inside of a toilet paper tube.
Just make sure you don’t get any of it on the actual toilet paper. Some oils may irritate the skin.
Toilet bombs are similar to a bath bomb (but for your toilet). They eliminate smells while giving your throne a quick clean. Leave some of these on top of the toilet for guests to use in case a quick spot clean in necessary.
Hang a clean handtowel
Although not directly related to the toilet, one thing your guests definitely will notice is having to dry their hands on your bath towel. Make sure there’s a clean hand towel in the bathroom and plenty of toilet paper.
