The Swedish flatpack giant announced they will be launching an augmented reality application on Apple’s upcoming iOS 11, due for release later this year.
The app will allow customers to place digital items from IKEA’s furniture range into photos of their rooms for a realistic view of what each will look like.
According to Digital Trends, "Ikea’s digital transformation manager Michael Valdsgaard believes that augmented reality is the future of the shopping experience.
"While the app will initially be pushed for use in-store to encourage sales and allow customers to make more informed purchases, the end goal is to have people try out different furniture options digitally while at home, before ordering online."
This isn’t the first time IKEA has embraced the tool, releasing catalogues which allow customers to see what certain items look like before buying.
