A lot of thought goes into planning a vacation. But there’s one thing you should always do before taking your next trip: make sure it’s long enough.
According to recent research published in the Journal of Happiness, your health and wellness peaks on the eighth day of a holiday.
Researchers looked at people holidaying for more than 14 days. Interestingly, they found employees were unable to recover from the stress of work during shorter breaks, less than 8 days or over the weekend.
That bad news is, regardless of how long your holiday is the positive effects diminish almost as soon as you return to work.
"On the first day of work resumption, positive vacation effects on health and wellness have already entirely faded out," the study says.
