You know those handy, disposable paper coffee cups you drink your morning coffee from that you think are OK for the environment? Well, it turns out they're not. At all.
In actual fact, even if you try to recycle them in good faith, you actually run the risk of adding to the factors that can ruin the recyclable paper and cardboard recapture process that would mean any other good recyclable cardboard in the system would be turfed anyway.
There's what's called a polyethylene coating on the inside of your otherwise 90-95% paper coffee cups that stops your brew from seeping through the cup from the inside to the outside and that means it cannot be recycled and belongs in the garbage bin!
All this sadly is tragically bad news for the planet. In Australia alone, we use over 1 BILLION disposable coffee cups every year, which could circumnavigate the earth two-and-a-half times. That's just Australia without even thinking about the rest of the world.
Thankfully, there's an easy (and pretty!) way to join the global War on Waste and in a three-part series by the ABC, they hit the nail on the head: reusable BPA-free coffee cups! You can see our range on BHG Shop by clicking this link here, but scroll down to see some of our favourites in three sizes; small, medium and large.
Join us in the War on Waste and wave goodbye to disposable coffee cups for good!
