If you can’t save your door with a light sand, stain and varnish or a couple of coats of enamel paint, consider replacing it with a new model – especially if it’s extremely weathered! Choose a solid door in a standard size, or have a custom door manufactured to suit your measurements. Then call in a tradie to hang it and fit the hardware. A brand new look!
If you have old amber glass sidelights (the panels on each side of a front door), have new frosted glass panels cut to suit the dimensions. Remove old glass by
applying generous crosses of tape to both faces, then use a chisel to carefully pry away timber bead holding it in place.
Wearing protective gloves, carefully remove old glass. Clean up window frames and wipe away dust. Apply glass silicone to border of frame, press new glass panel in place, then cut and nail new timber bead. Apply stain and varnish or paint bead to suit.
