Talking to children about Santa can be difficult for many parents.
Thankfully, one mum came up with a heartwarming way to reveal the news to her little ones without breaking their heart.
“In our family, we have a special way of transitioning the kids from receiving from Santa, to becoming a Santa,” wrote Leslie Rush, a high school history teacher from El Paso, Texas. “This way, the Santa construct is not a lie that gets discovered, but an unfolding series of good deeds and Christmas spirit. When they are 6 or 7, whenever you see that dawning suspicion that Santa may not be a material being, that means the child is ready.”
Although the story was originally shared over ten years ago, it’s still helping families across the globe today.
Once the child is ready, Leslie helps them transition to becoming Santa Claus.
“We then have the child choose someone they know – a neighbour, usually. The child’s mission is to secretly, deviously, find out something that the person needs, and then provide it, wrap it, deliver it – and never reveal to the target where it came from,” she explains.
The reaction to the idea has been positive with many saying they are going to do this with their children.
"This is a wonderful idea. Than you for sharing," one mum commented.
Another added: "This makes me believe in Christmas all over again. Love this idea."
