The harsh Australian weather will quickly turn even the finest outdoor furniture a dull shade of grey. But it won’t take much to spruce it up, just elbow grease and a couple of products you may already have in the shed. Not only will your setting look a lot better, it will last longer, too.
Gather your supplies
Drill and bits; sandpaper; PVA glue; deck cleaner; bucket; rubber gloves; stiff scrubbing brush; outdoor furniture oil; paintbrush
Step 1 Tighten up any screws that may have come loose. Any really loose parts should be reglued and screwed back in place. Lightly sand where glue will be to remove any dirt and improve the bond to the timber. Let glue dry.
Step 2 Mix 1 part deck cleaner with 4 parts water in bucket. Wearing gloves, scrub furniture using scrubbing brush to bring timber back to its original colour. Leave to sit for 20 minutes, then rinse off. Leave to dry completely.
Step 3 Apply 2 coats of outdoor furniture oil, allowing to dry between coats. For the best long-term results, you should re-coat timber every 6 to 12 months to keep it looking great.
