You'll also need
Jo Sonja’s Artists’ Colours in Naples Yellow Hue, Turners Yellow, Gold Oxide, Yellow Deep, Carbon Black, Titanium White; glass; craft knife; self-healing mat; small pompom; scissors; stippling brush; small foam roller; small flat paintbrush
Working on piece of plastic, trace around rim of glass. Use scissors and a craft knife to cut out a circle for template. Use roller to paint entire canvas with 2 coats of Turners Yellow, allowing to dry after each coat.
Using template, stippling brush and Naples Yellow Hue, paint 2 irregular rows of overlapping circles along top of canvas. Wash stencil.
Repeat Step 2 to create 12 more rows of overlapping circles to cover canvas – 2 rows of each colour in the following order: Naples Yellow Hue mixed with Turners Yellow; Turners Yellow; Turners Yellow mixed with Yellow Deep; Yellow Deep; Yellow Deep mixed with Gold Oxide; Gold Oxide. You can adjust lightness of any of colour mixes by adding Titanium White.
Using pencil, lightly draw a flower stem slightly off-centre, then draw 1 on either side at varying heights. Draw 7 lines, each 8cm long, out of each stem. Using flat brush and Carbon Black, paint over lines. Dab pompom in black paint and use to make petals. Tidy circles with brush.
