Better Homes and Gardens
Love spending time outdoors? Chances are you’ll need a handy drinks table for your cup of coffee or glass of wine. This simple project will give you something distinctive – and growing! It’s a garden pot and high table in one, made from upcycled materials, and it will look perfect in your outdoor living room.
Gather your supplies
• Large pot with 40-50cm dia. top
• Circular piece of glass (same dia. as pot)
• Old bar stool (with metal legs)
You’ll also need Drill and bits; potting mix; plants; pebbles; self-adhesive clear pads (for under glass)
Note Our piece of glass came from an old coffee table picked up at a recycling centre. If you need to buy your glass, make sure it is at least 10mm-thick with polished edges
Step 1 Put pot in the location you want it, as it will be heavy to move after planting.
Step 2 Up-end stool and, using drill, unscrew legs from base.
Step 3 Put a layer of potting mix in base of pot, then position stool base so legs protrude about 20cm above top of pot.
Step 4 Fill pot with potting mix, packing down firmly around stool legs.
Step 5 Plant out pot using a mixture of low foliage plants, interspersed with drifts of pebbles. Put a self-adhesive clear pad on top of each stool leg (to keep glass stable and stop it slipping). For extra stability, dab Selleys Liquid Nails onto each leg.
Step 6 Carefully position glass on stool legs, making sure it’s centred.
