Decorating tips to hide your TV

Don’t let tech get in the way of good style. - by Laura Barry
  • 13 Sep 2018

As much as we all love an excellent TV for movie nights and watching our favourite tv shows, the living room essential can be a less-than-chic focal point. In an ideal world we could have a living room for tech and tv, and another for entertaining and conversation, however for many of us that’s a luxury that isn’t possible. On the bright side, there are several clever ways a television can be camouflaged, and there’s an option to suit every budget and style.

1. Sliding panels

If you just want to keep your television out of sight, consider using sliding panels. They can be extra-large and stand in for a feature wall, or small and look like framed works of art or pictures.

2. Try a cabinet

A television cabinet with closing panels that looks like another piece of furniture when not in use is another way of hiding away a television without spending huge amounts of money on a high-tech television or purpose decorating ideas.

3. Rework your colour scheme

A coat of charcoal or dark paint on the walls is a great way to remove the focus from a wall-mounted tv. The dark colours are currently on trend, and the inky hues will help the television blend into the wall.

4. Use a gallery wall

The gallery wall of art and photographs is an enduring interior trend that continues to appear in homes across Australia. Utilise the collection of square frames and work your wall-mounted television into the arrangement. The wall will draw your eye, but it won’t linger on the television.

5. Buy a TV with a camo function

If you’re in the market for a new television, purchasing a tv that turns into a work of art when not in use is the perfect way to disguise tech, even when it takes pride of place on the wall. The Frame by Samsung is one such television, is available in a range of colours, and has hundreds of at images t choose from that will appear on the screen when it’s in stand-by mode. Alternatively, you can upload your own pictures or photos for display.
