Everything looks better by candlelight, but melted wax can be an eyesore. Here's how to remove it from just about anything.

On carpet

1. Grab some ice and apply it directly on to the wax until it hardens, then scrape away as much as you can with a knife.

2. Then place a paper towel on top of the wax, and use a hairdryer to warm it.

3. The paper towel should absorb the melting wax.

N.B. Never use an iron on carpet, as it can burn or melt the fibres.

On fabric

1. Grab some ice and apply it directly on to the wax until it hardens, then scrape away as much as you can with a knife.

2. Then place a paper towel on top of the wax, and gently iron over it.

3. The paper towel should absorb the melting wax. Keep ironing and replacing the paper towel until it’s all gone.

Candle wax on sealed timber

1. Apply ice directly on to the wax, then use a silicon spatula to scrape along the grain of the timber.

2. Use a damp silk cloth to rub away the excess wax.

Candle wax on unsealed timber

1. Apply ice directly on to the wax, then use a silicon spatula to scrape it away, along the grain of the timber.

2. Use a damp silk cloth to rub away as much wax as possible.

3. Place a paper towel over the wax, and use a hair dryer to melt the wax. The paper towel will absorb the wax. Replace the paper towels until all of the wax has disappeared. Use a stop-start method so you don’t overheat the timber, and allow it to cool between changing the paper towel.
