Give a modern spin to the 1970s trend of statement artworks in bright colours. Try this recycled art using bike wheels.
Gather your supplies
• Variously sized bike wheels
• Drill and bits
• 45mm galvanised hex head metal screws
• Nuts and bolts to suit
You’ll also need
Wire brush; drop sheet; exterior metal primer (we used Dulux Steel Primer Spraypak); exterior spray paint (we used Duramax Dandelion Yellow Gloss)
Step 1 Use wire brush to remove any rust from bike rims and spokes. Lay wheels on a drop sheet and spray with exterior metal primer. Allow to dry.
STEP 2 Spray wheels with at least 2 coats paint in desired colour, allowing to dry between coats.
Step 3 Position 1 wheel in desired location along fence rail. Drill hole in rim and skew screw to secure to rail. Repeat for other side of wheel.
Step 4 Position 1 wheel next to fixed wheel on fence. Overlap rims, then drill through both rims and secure with nut and bolt.
Step 5 Repeat Step 4 to fix additional wheels in place.
