They are a winter staple in many homes, but they can get a little stinky!

Luckily, there are a few different methods for cleaning your ugg boots.

How do you clean smelly ugg boots?

Cleaning ugg boots or woollen slippers is easier than you think.

The UGG website recommends a protector spray to keep ugg boots in good condition. They also have a cleaning solution that you can use to clean the outside of your ugg boots.

The UGG website says: "Moisten the surface with a clean, damp sponge. Apply a small amount of formula to the damp sponge and gently scrub and remove residue with a sponge."

To stop the boots from losing shape, UGG recommends stuffing them with a paper towel. Let your shoes dry in the shade for 24 hours. Importantly, do not wear your boots again until they are completely dry.

Alternatively, the Soka Australia Instagram page has some handy tips for cleaning woollen slippers.

They explain that it's best to avoid soaking the slippers' outside leather and instead wipe the surface with a dry eraser pad and dry with a microfibre cloth.

How to clean the inside of your ugg boots

Yes, it is possible to make in the insides of your uggs clean again.

Grab another microfibre cloth and wipe the inside of your ugg boots using water. If that isn't enough to clean the wool, sprays are available that help you remove germs and odours.

Söka Australia recommends Norwex sportzyme or a castile soap and water solution. If using a soap solution, it's important to rinse the inside using a damp microfiber cloth and leave it to dry for 24 hours.

As for the smell, you can sprinkle some bicarb soda inside. Let it sit for a few hours and then vacuum out to prevent having bicarb soda on your feet.

How to wash ugg boots in the washing machine

Can you wash ugg boots in the washing machine? It depends on who you ask. According to UGG, it's not a good idea to put them in the wash.

In an interview with CHOICE, Todd Watts, director of Australian-owned ugg manufacturer Ugg Since 1974, says, "putting your uggs in the washing machine will permanently damage the inners, knotting the wool and removing the natural lanolin that keeps them feeling soft and comfortable."

However, online forums and some retailers say it's perfectly fine.

One website says the key is to use a cold wash cycle on the delicate setting.

As for the detergent, they say, "Pour a small amount of odour and colour-free washing detergent or powder into the dispenser."
