WATCH: Adam and Juliet build a kitchen corner cabinet

Gather your supplies

  • 1800 x 595 x 16mm white melamine (3)
  • 42 x 19mm 2.4m dressed timber (4)
  • Curtain wire kit 2m (2)

You’ll also need

Step 1

Measure, mark and cut all components (list below) with tape measure, combination square, pencil, track saw (melamine) and mitre saw (dressed timber). Sand sawn edges with sandpaper. Predrill 2 holes 10mm from both ends of all End caps with drill and countersink drill bit.

To build a carcass frame, assemble rectangle with 2 Braces (B) and 2 End caps (B) with short edge facing up. Apply PVA to ends of both Braces and attach End cap with butt joints, insert screws, tighten into Braces. Wipe excess PVA; repeat for opposite end. Check square and level. Repeat for a total of 2 rectangles.

With End panel B face down, measure and mark assembly lines across width at 300mm and 800mm from top edge. Position a rectangle flush to End panel along marked line and clamp. Predrill 3 equally spaced holes through Brace and into End panel. Insert and tighten screws, remove clamp. Repeat for other rectangle. 

Step 4

Repeat Steps 2-3 to assemble carcass A with A components.

Position both carcasses together with End panels flush to adjacent walls. Apply PVA to carcass A End cap and attach to carcass B Brace with a butt joint. Clamp together. Predrill 3 equally spaced holes through carcass B Braces and into carcass A End caps to attach. Check level.  

Step 6

To attach carcasses to wall, predrill through top corner timber components flush with wall. Drill 3 holes on both adjacent components and into wall. Insert appropriate fixings for your wall type. Check level. Place all Shelf inserts across timber rectangles.

Step 7

Predrill and install curtain kit eye screws to top ends and centre of cabinet opening. Cut and sew a 25mm hem on both ends of fabric to make a curtain, thread wire through top hem and attach a hook to both ends of wire. Hook wire into eye screws to complete.
