What is the difference between chalk paint and regular paint?

Chalk paint stands out from regular paint, including acrylic, because of its versatility. It can be applied to most surfaces, including wood, metal, and fabric, without having to prep the surface. Depending on the surface you’re painting, other paint types may need more prep work, such as sanding, priming, or removing old paint.

Chalk paint is popular for its matte finish, perfect for achieving a rustic, vintage, or distressed look. Regular paint offers a wide range of finishes, including matte, satin, semi-gloss, and high-gloss, allowing greater flexibility in achieving specific looks.

Other differences between chalk paint and regular paint:

Drying time: chalk paint typically dries faster.

Sealing: chalk paint often needs sealing, while most regular paint types form a washable surface without sealing.

Consistency: chalk paint has a thicker consistency, resulting in more texture.
