- Start with a blank canvas by lining the large areas with new materials to make it feel clean and bright while adding comfort underfoot.
- Clad interior walls and ceiling with sheets of plywood, using moulding to cover edges and joins. Paint in
a light colour for a fresh finish.
What type of floor is best for home office?
• For the floor, buy marine-grade carpet cut to the room size from a hardware store. Trim around doors and lay over concrete using carpet adhesive. Cut and install skirting to hide the edges.

How do you make a simple desk at home?
Add a luxe bespoke feel to your space with an affordable diy built-in desk.
- For a built-in joinery feel, measure between walls and cut a timber panel to fit with 10mm clearance.
- Use a 60mm holesaw to drill a hole for cables in back corner of desk.
- Mark height of desk on walls. Cut rails from 18mm primed moulding and screw into wall studs.
- Lightly sand cut edges; apply two coats clear varnish to desk and legs.
- Underneath, install leg plates at the front, 50mm in from edges. Use a 6mm bit to drill centre hole to install two 710mm pine legs.

- Check thread sizes of plates and legs are the same when buying.
How do you create a zone in an office?
- Create a work zone with 600 x 900mm VJ panels cut to fit and painted in a contrasting colour to your walls.
- Use construction adhesive to install panels, then frame with 18mm-square timber moulding secured with a nail gun.
- Black accents with natural timber and a hint of green is a striking combo.
How do you build floating shelves for an office?
- Cut desk offcuts into three 200 x 400mm shelves and 200 x 600mm backing. Predrill and screw through backing into shelves, centred and flush with top and base; sand and seal. Screw through backing into wall studs.
- Inject personality into your shelves with your favourite books and objects.
How to make a blackboard calendar
- Cut a 1200 x 900 x 9mm MDF panel down to 1052 x 652mm. Prime and apply 2 coats of chalkboard paint. Cut strips of 30 x 11mm moulding for the frame and dividers, then glue and nail onto the blackboard.
- Here, the calendar is attached to the back of the door, making excellent use of unused space.
