Drawer and door safety catches

Use these safety catches in the kitchen to ensure cupboards are difficult for the little ones to open.

In the kitchen or bathroom, full of sharp cutlery and chemicals, cupboards are fascinating places for toddlers. Safety catches will ensure it’s difficult for them to open doors and drawers.

Step 1 Measure where you want cabinet part of catch to be installed and mark with a pencil. Doors need to open just enough so an adult can get a finger in and unlatch safety device.

Step 2 Position hook so it will grab when door is step1 step 2 step 3 step 4 opened, but slip over keeper as it’s being closed. Drill small pilot holes to get screws started, then screw cabinet component to underside of top

Step 3 Predrill, then screw catch to door. Close door and test operation, then adjust as necessary. Avoid showing kids how catch works.

Step 4 In same way, fix safety catches to inside of drawers, but here latches will catch on cabinet component fixed to side of cabinet.
