You could do worse than spend $79 on an Ikea LÖVBACKEN table, which auction experts are predicting could be worth up to $A7,775 one day.

According to Barnebys’ antiques expert Pontus Silfverstolpe, the side table is one of Ikea’s classic pieces.

“To become a classic or antique, a certain criteria needs to be met — notable design credentials, outstanding quality and continued innovation,” he explains in a blog post.

Silfverstolpe says that the 1953 side table was Ikea’s first flat-pack product.

Describing it as “a wonderful little table with a fantastic heritage,” the table was created by Gillis Lundgren, one of Sweden’s “most successful designers.”

“Selling for thousands at some of Sweden’s leading auction houses, the LÖVBACKEN has become a collectible for the most discerning of furniture experts.”

Silfverstolpe predicts that the mid-century table could be worth £1,000 to £1,800 by 2030 ($A1755 to $A3159) and £3,000 to £5,000 by 2040 ($A5265 to $A7775).

The good news is that the table is available in Australia at Ikea stores and online now. Time to make a beeline.
