Each year, the universal colour company Pantone chooses a colour that best displays both the year about to pass and the year ahead. Every creative around the world waits in anticipation for this announcement, and the day has finally arrived!

This year, it’s all about feeling fuzzy… Can you guess what colour it might be? That’s right, it’s Pantone 131023 – Peach Fuzz!

Although recent rhetoric from fashion and design communities went down a cooler train of thought, with blues, greens and even Gen-Z purple thrown in there, it turned out to be the complete opposite!

Some even hoped for a glorious Barbie pink, after the Barbie domination that took over the later half of 2023. But there it is, Peach Fuzz, in all its glory!

So, a peachy orange-pink, whatever could that entail? The Executive Director of Pantone, Leatrice Eiseman, describes this hue as an ‘echo’ of our “innate yearning for connection and closeness”. Meant to resonate with compassion, this colour invites you into a warm embrace.

‘Peach Fuzz’ is a beautiful warm tone with a blend of orange and pink. A graceful nod to stone-fruit, this colour embodies velvety, gentle warmth and aims to enrich mind, body and soul.

Peach Fuzz: a sign of the times

This colour is a huge change in direction from last year’s vibrant, energy pulse ‘Viva Magenta’ that fused modernity with ancient dye craftsmanship. While last year focused on technology and tying together the old and new with ‘Magentaverse’, this year aims to rekindle connection, emotional physicality and a sense of nurture.

Looking back on the year of 2023, it’s no wonder that a colour so deeply situated in compassionate concepts has been chosen. Riding off the back of the end of the pandemic, this colour calls for each person to feel wrapped up, cosy and connected to others around them.

With the explanation that Peach Fuzz is a colour that ‘effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless’, Eiseman shows all the colour-enthusiasts out there where to get their inspiration…
