Your hallway is the first thing you see when you walk through the door but it’s often the space we pay the least attention to. It’s also often a tricky space to work with, with little natural light and small narrow confines. 1. A warm welcome
As tempting as it may be to splurge on a feature wall for your entryway opt for something a little more neutral. Light, fresh colours are warm and welcoming and give you a blank canvas to have fun with the smaller accents.
2. Make it your own
Make the most of an usual space with storage and practicality. “Avoid clutter creep with a DIY hall table and storage,” says BHG interior design expert Tara Dennis. An entry space is the perfect location to store mail, keys and mobile phones, conceal these in a slim hall table that has shelving and possibly drawers. 3. Homely hues
Create a welcoming hue with a pendant light or lamp. “Use a large feature pendant for shorter hallways, and in long hallways use three of the same light hung at a low level. To set the mood and show off a more modern décor, use wall lights at a low level for a calming day spa ambience,” comments professional interior designer Krystal Sagona.
4. The fine details
Now the real fun begins, look for practical but stylish options when it comes to your hallway. Line up a couple of woven baskets under the table for shoes and odd bobs and install a couple of smart hooks for jackets, hats and bags. You could also head to your local second store for some antique trinkets that won’t only look great but offer some extra storage.
