No matter how clean you keep your home, some rooms will always develop a smell. It could be due to the age of the house, the design of it, the presence of pets, or countless other reasons. Fortunately, we have you covered for everything!

1. In the kitchen

Place a cup of bi-carb soda at the bottom of bins and in the fridge and freezer to absorb bad smells. For the sink, pour a cup of bi-carb soda, follow by a cup of white vinegar down the drain then rinse with boiling water 5 minutes later.

2. In the bathroom

Stop towels from smelling sour by always hanging them up to dry completely, wash towels frequently in hot water and choose a reed diffuser for your bathroom in a citrus scent, as that will reduce the chances of the room smelling stuff and create a ‘clean’ vibe.

3. In the wardrobe

Shoes are usually the culprit of unpleasant smells in a cupboard or wardrobe, but this can be easily fixed by placing black tea bags in the offending shoes. Teabags can be fresh or used (after drying them out – of course!).

4. Reduce that ‘stuffy’ smell

Indoor plants are natural air-purifiers, so ensure you have a devil’s ivy, peace lily, philodendron or spider plant in every room – as these are the best known air purifiers. However, the best way to ensure a room doesn’t smell musty is to open all the windows for a time each day to allow natural airflow, and allow the sun to shine in.

5. On the floor

Soft flooring, such as rugs, carpets and pet beds can develop a smell. Deodorise by mixing 1 cup of bi-carb soda with 15 drops of your favourite essential oil in a jar with a lid. Shake until combined and poke holes in the lid of the jar. Sprinkle over the carpet and leave for an hour or so, then vacuum it all up!

6. Instant fragrance

The best way to spread a delicious scent throughout your home is light a candle, use an essential oil diffuser, a reed diffuser, burn incense or even use a scented room spray. A warm and inviting scent that smells like dessert, such as caramel, cinnamon or vanilla, is a great option for the living room, while citrus scents will create a ‘clean’ vibe and fresh smells – such as ocean, salt, cotton sheets and other such inspired fragrances – will make the home feel open.
