For a very long time white-washed interiors have been the style du jour for interior design. While a white colour scheme is great base for building upon, it isn’t the most practical colour for homes that have children or pets. In 2019 interior design has well and truly welcome colour back into the fold, and you can expect to see more interiors that have bright colours, bold colour combinations and unexpected colour palettes.

Here five new colour combinations to try in 2019.

1. Navy blue and white with pops of yellow

White is kept to a minimum for this colour combination and navy blue is left to take centre stage. Keep the atmosphere bright by incorporate pops of yellow via soft furnishings, furniture or trims.

2. Red and white

Red is traditionally kept to a minimum within the home sphere, however this daring colour will firmly secure your home into the ‘edgy’ style category and have guests commenting on your brave choice of colour.

3. Burnt orange white warm neutrals and pink

Burnt orange is a colour that can sometimes look a little retro, however when carefully paired with warm neutral colours or millennial pink it becomes an on-trend colour combination that makes a room feel warm and autumnal.

4. Port with dark timber and jewel tones

This rich hue can be dressed up with light and bright white for a feminine take or toned down with accents of dark timber and black for a room with a masculine touch.

5. Greys on greys with pops of blue

Although technically a monochrome palette, layering different shades of grey is a wonderful way to build texture within a room. Incorporate textured-finish paints on the walls, multiple types of quilting, furs and cushions on the furniture, then add a pop of blue here and there for an unexpected twist.
