The holidays are a great time to improve your home with a big project. A big block of time lets you get your teeth into something that you just can’t do over a weekend. Here’s a few suggestions for jobs you can get done these holidays.
Do a budget update
The kitchen and bathroom are prime territories for holiday makeovers. Treat yourself to a few nights of takeaway while you paint the kitchen cabinet doors and replace the benchtops. If the bathroom is on your agenda, make use of the showers at your local beach or pool as you paint the tiles, replace the shower screen and re-tile the floor.
Paint a room
Clear out the furniture, break out the drop sheets and freshen up a room with a coat of paint. Make sure you prepare the surface properly so all your hard work lasts for years to come. When it comes to colour, you could just freshen up with something similar to what you have or go for something different. Check out the latest interior colour trends.
Update your floors
If the floors in your home are looking a bit dated, you can freshen them up with a new floor covering. There’s a wide range of flooring options to suit all areas of your home and all DIY skill levels. If you’ve got carpet, rip it up and remove and nails or tacks to get back to the substrate below. If it’s firm and level you can usually just lay your new floor over the top. If it’s a bit up and down you may have to put down a layer of Masonite first to create a firm base. Check with the requirements of the floor you’re going with.
Build a sandpit
Your kids will love you with a brand new sandpit. It’s also something that the whole family can get involved in so you can get a project done and still spend time with your loved ones! If you’re stuck for ideas, check out our 5 sandpit ideas.
