Who doesn't love a camping trip? Get out, enjoy nature, breathe in all the fresh air and ready yourself for some much-needed R&R. Complete with tent, gas burner, lanterns and hammocks, it's one heck of a relaxing time, but there's always that one little factor of danger you should take into consideration.
Campers these days tend to question the safety of one important item regularly brought on camping trips around the world. That item is your favourite hammock, and questions only started arising after an incident in the US where a girl was seriously injured and died after tying her hammock to a dead tree.
While trees might seem quite stable at first, it’s not easy to tell if your weight will cause it to snap.
Here are some safety tips if you are looking at hanging your hammock on a camping trip:
- Look up and make sure there aren’t any dead trees or large dead branches that could potentially fall on you
- Choose a tree that won’t bend too much when you get into your hammock. Not only could this lead to a snap, but you’re also damaging the natural environment
- Don’t place your hammock too close to the water. You could end up falling into the water and get hurt along the way
Having said all that, if hammocks are indeed your thing and you'd like one, we have a fab range on BHG Shop, which you can see by clicking this link.
