If you've ever hit your thumb or finger with a hammer, you know the pain! If you haven't, you might fear it happening when you attempt DIY jobs around your home. The unease may even stop you from having a go at simple projects, especially when they involve small nails in fiddly positions. Never fear! Here's the trick you need to build up your confidence, avoid the throbbing digit and skip a possible trip to the emergency ward. Just pierce a nail through a small piece of scrap paper or cardboard (a slice of cardboard box will do) then, holding the cardboard or paper, line the nail up in position. Hammer in the nail and lift away the cardboard or paper. Easy!
You can also get creative and try holding the nail in position using a fine-toothed hair comb or clothes peg, or rummage through the toolbox for a set of long nose pliers to do the job. Have a go!
