If you still have smelly towels after washing, this hack may be exactly what you’re looking for.
There’s nothing worse than getting out of the shower, feeling nice and clean, only to grab a towel that smells musty, and gross. Good news is, we have the answer to preventing bad odours from sticking to your towels, but it isn’t what you might expect. It’s vodka, and it actually works!
Just add a little vodka into the water and let the towels soak before running a washing cycle.
We’ve got a step-by-step guide on how to save musty towels with this unexpected ingredient.
How do you get a musty smell out of towels?
What you need:
- Washing machine
- 1 cup vodka
- Laundry detergent
Step 1: Pour vodka into water
Pour 1 cup of vodka into the washing machine tub as it fills with water. Use warm water and for colored towels and hot water for white towels.
Step 2: Add laundry soap
Add laundry soap into the filling tub. Once the laundry soap is in, put a load of towels into the washing machine.
Step 3: Let towels soak
Once the tub is full, pause the machine and let the towels soak for 1 hour. Soaking will allow both the soap and the odor-fighting vodka to get into the fibers of the towels for a deep clean.
Step 4: Wash normally
After letting them soak in the vodka, laundry soap and water mixture, wash the load of towels normally. Once done, let them dry and notice how the smell is gone!
Wash in smaller loads. For best results, don’t crowd the tub of the washing machine with towels. They need room to breathe to get completely clean. Cleaning towels in small loads also makes for easier and more complete drying on a towel drying cycle.
