Chef, owner of Grossi Florentino and guest judge on My Kitchen Rules, Guy Grossi, talks to Better Homes and Gardens about food, who he would invite to a dinner party and the best advice he has ever received.
1. What is your favourite food and why?
I always struggle with this one, because I can't possibly pick just one. But I think food is about bringing people together, sharing memories and creating new ones. A good cheese board is something that I always enjoy. It comes out at the end of the meal when everyone is sitting around, conversing and relaxing. This is what food is all about.
2. What are you passionate about?
Obviously I'm passionate about food. You have to be,doing what I do. But there are many aspects of food that I am passionate about. I think it's extremely important to respect your produce, choose seasonal and locally. It's important to support small growers who are also passionate about quality and sustainability. I'm passionate about finding the best ingredients that are good for us, our palate and our planet.
3. What is your favourite holiday destination?
Can I say Italy? I love travelling to all sorts of locations. I find that you can draw inspiration from anywhere if you look for it. I love getting away from the main cities and exploring smaller countryside towns. I like to immerse myself in the lifestyle that is living in small, relaxed environments and enjoy the things the locals are proud of.
4. Who inspires you the most?
Great chefs around the world to the most junior people in our team who are passionate about their job.
5. Who would you invite to a dinner party?
Anyone I can share some laughs and a nice bottle of pinot with.
6. What are you reading at the moment?
Lately I have been reading about how to stop my new Labrador puppy from biting. I love him to pieces, but boy - has he got sharp teeth!
7. Best advice you have ever received?
Persistence and determination will always prevail.
8. Who are you following on Instagram or Twitter?
I follow friends, food producers and farmers. Anything to do with food, really.
9. Favourite movie or television program?
Gladiator with Russell Crowe would have to be right up there. I named my dog Maximus!!
10. If you had a super power, what would it be?
Eat anything without getting full or absorbing calories.
