Gather your supplies
Patterned paper; split pins; pencil; double-sided tape; embroidery needle or awl; sticky tape; scissors; paper trimmer
Step 1 From patterned paper, use a paper trimmer to cut eight 30.5 x 5cm strips (for base and middle), four 26 x 5cm strips (for top layer) and one 15 x 5cm strip (to finish).
Step 2 The gift bow is made in 3 layers, with 4 petals in each layer. To make first petal, take one 30.5cm strip. With the patterned side facing out, bring the ends together, overlapping edges to make a petal. Use sticky tape to secure ends. Mark a dot 2.5 cm in from edge. Use a needle to pierce a hole. Push a split pin through hole from top to bottom but do not open prongs. Make 3 more petals from 30.5cm strips, threading them onto same split pin. When all 4 petals are on the pin, open the prongs. This is the base layer.
Step 3 Repeat Step 2 to form middle layer.
Step 4 Make the top layer in same way, using 26cm strips. Lay the base layer on the table. Use double-sided tape to stick the base, middle and top layers together in a nest. To hide the pin, make a loop from the 15cm strip and tape in place.
Step 5 Cut four 30.5 x 5cm strips of paper. Overlap 2 strips by 5cm. Use tape to join 2 strips together. Repeat for other 2 strips. Tape long pieces together, to make a large ‘X’. Use scissors to cut a ‘V’ in the ends of each strip. Attach to your gift-topper to the centre of the ‘X’ using doublesided tape.
