What should I do in my garden in April?
- Prepare soil for planting bare-root deciduous trees during winter by mixing in organic matter and ensuring soil drains well.
- Give hedges a last shaping trim before winter.
- Plant climbers such as bougainvillea and mandevilla in tropical and sub-tropical gardens.
- Clean algae from paths and steps to prevent accidental slips in winter.
- Clean up fruit trees and destroy any rotting fruit.
- Prepare spots for planting bare root roses.
- Plant broad beans into unused vegetable beds to be dug in when mature as a green manure crop.
