Does your lawn need attention? Here’s a couple of tips to be lush green and clean this spring!

Has your lawn been neglected of late?

Here’s the best way to properly tidy up your lawn no matter the state. Do more than one pass with the lawn mower starting at the tallest height settings, move on down to the preferred height. If the lawn is really long and thick then consider using a line trimmer first to thin it out.

Hint – Cutting to the shortest height doesn’t mean you’ll be mowing less. All this does is damage the lawn as it will expose the soil to more heat and light, drying it out. Most lawn mowers have 4-5 height settings and as a general rule the middle is the way to go. Don’t go too short and keep it green!

Going patchy?

Consider using a mulching plug. The mulching plug stops the clippings from going into a catcher. This is perfect for those patchy areas putting nutrients back into the soil to assist with regrowth of thinning areas.

Let’s talk blades!

For Swingback blades, never sharpen them. These need to be replaced. While you’re at it, replace the nut, bolt and washers as well.

For bar blades, take care and make sure and give out equal treatment… whatever you do to one side of the blade, do the same to the other. Any sign of splits, cracks or chips then replace the blades immediately. Good sharp blades will cut the grass cleaner, and puts less load on to the engine for better efficiency.

Do you have the right kit for your space?

Know your lawn! If you don’t need something heavy duty there are battery options that provide efficiency, are easier on the ears, can be manoeuvred with ease and are better for the environment.
